Maharashtra Govt and TEAM to Launch Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse at Mumbai Tech Week
The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM), has entered into an MoU in June 2023 to introduce the innovative 'Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse.' This initiative aims to present the ongoing infrastructure developments and envisage the transformation of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by 2025 through a digital twin project. The project's official launch is scheduled to take place during the Mumbai Tech Week on February 18, 2024, with the esteemed presence of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis.
Under the leadership of Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, driving his Maharashtra@75 vision, the Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse is an ambitious initiative. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, it aims to craft a virtual rendition of Mumbai within the metaverse, marking a pioneering step in reshaping urban governance and citizen engagement across the nation. This groundbreaking venture offers an immersive experience, granting citizens a sneak peek into the city's future. It highlights ongoing infrastructure projects and envisions the transformation of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by 2025, with 12 key projects already earmarked. Moreover, the project endeavors to furnish citizens with crucial information regarding technological aspects, costs, environmental impacts, and other factors, thereby significantly enhancing public awareness about the concerted efforts toward constructing sustainable infrastructure for the long term.
The MMR is currently undergoing its biggest transformation, including the Mumbai Coastal Road that connects Marine Lines in south Mumbai to Kandivali in northern Mumbai; the first and only fully underground metro system in Mumbai - Mumbai Metro Line 3, running between Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ; the just launched Mumbai Trans Harbour Link that has made Mumbai closer to the satellite city of Navi Mumbai; and the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse allows the citizens to experience these developments through an immersive virtual representation. These infra projects will go live during the Mumbai Tech Week. They will be accessible to citizens through virtual reality (VR) devices across locations, a dedicated mobile app, a website, and the official Maharashtra tourism website.
The Mumbai Tech Week (MTW) is a non-profit endeavor scheduled to take place from February 18 to 23, 2024. It aims to acknowledge and commemorate the vibrant technology ecosystem of the city through diverse formats. MTW is orchestrated by the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM), bringing together 46 tech companies for a unique collaboration, marking a pioneering moment in Mumbai's tech community. The unveiling of the Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse is set to occur during the launch event of MTW at the Jio World Convention Center, BKC, Mumbai.
During MTW, a distinguished lineup of individuals spanning policymakers, tech entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, investors, and media luminaries will grace the event.
