Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the government-owned telecom operator, has taken a significant stride toward resolving network issues and boosting connectivity for its users across India. Relatively its ambitious plan to deploy 1 lakh 4G towers using indigenous technology. BSNL has already installed nearly 84,000 new 4G towers covering both rural and urban regions of the country.
As per the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), 83.99 percent of the project is now achieved with the update shared via the department’s official pages through X (formerly known as Twitter) handles. The announcement involved a brief 8-second video showcasing the progress of the network growth initiative.
This move focuses to enhance service qualities for more than 9 crore BSNL mobile users, especially in areas where connectivity has remained a challenge. The ongoing rollout is part of BSNL’s modernization efforts, which is backed by government funding to make its infrastructure competitive with private companies like Jio and Airtel.
Moreover, to improve 4G coverage, the newly installed towers are future-ready and will support 5G upgrades. Reports suggest that BSNL could start 5G services as early as June 2025, marking a major impact forward for the state-run telco in India’s fast-evolving digital landscape.

Besides its infrastructure upgrade, BSNL has launched a Mother’s Day Special Offer running from May 7 to May 14. Users recharging during this period via the BSNL website or the DoT app can avail services of several benefits:

Extra validity on the Rs 1499 and Rs 1999 prepaid plans

5 percent discount on three selected recharge plans
Under the offer there will be, Rs 1499 plan will now offer 365 days of validity, up from 336 days. The Rs 1999 plan has been extended to 380 days, an increase from the previous 365 days. These user-friendly offers combined with the rapid pace of 4G tower deployment, which reflect BSNL’s renewed focus on customer satisfaction, improved connectivity and preparing for the next phase of mobile communication with 5G.
