Meta has stated that its smart glasses, Ray-Ban Meta glasses, will go on sale in India on Monday next week, 19 May 2025. Meta had previously confirmed the Indian launch of the smart glasses but had not given further details on availability and pricing.

Now, Meta has formally announced that the smart glasses will go on sale in India from 19 May, and will cost Rs 29,900 in India. The smart glasses are already available for pre-order on the Ray-Ban website, and the line will start selling on the site and top optical and sunglass outlets throughout the nation from May 19.

The intelligent glasses were released worldwide in September 2023 as the replacement for the initial Ray-Ban Stories. They feature enhanced design, better sound quality, greater app support, and more powerful AI capabilities. Ray-Ban Meta glasses also feature Meta AI onboard, and users can access features by just saying, "Hey Meta.". They can capture photos, shoot video, play songs, translate languages in real time, and even send messages, all without having to pick up their phones.

One of the standout features is the live translation tool, now being rolled out globally. It supports English, French, Italian, and Spanish, with real-time voice translations delivered through the glasses and a transcript shown on the connected phone. Impressively, this feature can also work offline if the relevant language packs are downloaded, a major plus for frequent travellers.

The product itself has also gotten into trouble, however, with Meta recently emailing users to let them know that it will now be default-storing all voice interactions and that users no longer have the option to disable data collection altogether.

Users previously had the option of not having voice recordings retained when they used AI functionality on the smart glasses. With the new policy, that option is eliminated. Voice recordings will be saved automatically whenever the "Hey Meta" voice assistant is running, although users can still delete specific recordings manually using the device settings.
