Amazon Tests AI Smart Glasses to Boost Delivery Efficiency
- Amazon develops AI-powered smart glasses for delivery drivers to enable hands-free navigation and package handling.
- The glasses use computer vision and sensors to scan packages, detect hazards, and display delivery details.
- Currently in trials across North America, with plans for a broader rollout after testing.
Amazon has announced that it is developing AI-powered smart glasses aimed at improving delivery efficiency and safety for its drivers. The smart glasses are designed to provide a hands-free experience, allowing drivers to focus on their surroundings while managing deliveries seamlessly.
The new device enables drivers to scan packages, navigate routes, and capture proof of delivery without relying on their smartphones. Equipped with AI-powered sensors and computer vision, the glasses overlay real-time information such as directions, hazards, and delivery details directly in the driver’s line of sight.
According to Amazon, the glasses activate automatically when the driver parks at a delivery location. They help locate packages inside the vehicle, guide drivers to the right address, and provide precise navigation in complex areas such as apartment buildings or business hubs.
The glasses pair with a controller in the driver’s vest, featuring a swappable battery, control buttons, and an emergency switch. They also support prescription and transition lenses, adapting to varying light conditions.

Amazon is currently testing the technology in North America and plans to refine it before launching on a larger scale. The company aims to eventually integrate features like real-time defect detection and hazard recognition, including identifying pets or poor lighting conditions.
Alongside the glasses, Amazon also introduced a robotic arm named Blue Jay and an AI tool called Eluna, both designed to improve warehouse efficiency.
