# Auto-Advance

This feature may seem to do a small handy task but it saves you from lot annoyance and getting irritated on a larger perspective.

Whenever you delete a mail, archive it after this process you are taken back to the inbox itself and again you have to search back the mail where you were in and this is quiet irritating.

A new feature in Gmail Labs called “Auto-advance,” which automatically opens the next conversation after you archive/delete/mute the one you’re on has been introduced.

By default, “Auto-advance” will advance to the previous that is older conversation in your inbox, perfect for people who read their newest mail first.

If you usually read your oldest email first and would rather advance to the next that is new conversation, you can change the direction from the General Settings tab at any time.
