FB Launches 'Instant Articles' To Give It A Journalistic Essence

BENGALURU: Social media platforms today have become stages that help youngsters showcase their talents. Facebook being the main social media site has now introduced 'Instant Articles' for publishers to create interactive platform to publish articles.

Most people today share a lot of articles on Facebook and as a result, each of which takes 8 seconds to load. However, the social media giant aims at making the users experience faster and richer with this new launch, reports FB. 

Here are some key facts about ‘Instant Article’

Faster Experience

Publishers can benefit by this feature which allows for faster loading of their articles or stories. It also offers high-resolution pictures which can be viewed by tilting the phone. Furthermore, it provides users the opportunity to explore interactive maps, listen to audio captions and comment on individual parts of an article in-line.

Control Over Your Article

The Instant Article was designed to give publishers the control over their features and articles, brand experience and to encourage budding writers. Publishers can sell advertisements and keep their revenue or they can use Facebook’s Audience Network to preserve their original unsold content. They can also track story traffic through comScore.

Coalition of Facebook with other Media Companies

The Instant Article has made Facebook work with nine other media broadcasters such as, The New York Times, National Geographic, The Guardian, BBC News, The Atlantic, Bild, BuzzFeed and Spiegel.

However, Facebook will launch the new feature for the iPhone with special stories from The New York Time, National Geographic, NBC, BuzzFeed and The Atlantic. At the same time, Facebook is also looking ahead to receive feedback from its readers which will help increase ‘Instant Article’.

“There is considerable growth of The New York Times on Facebook and we would like to extend ways of bringing in more Times users too”, said Mark Thompson, President and CEO, The New York Times.

Chris Cox, Facebook Chief Product Officer, said “Instant Articles lets them deliver fast, interactive articles while maintaining control of their content and business models.”
