Twitter was founded in the year 2006 by Jack Dorsey as a result of his vision to provide text messaging a cross-platform ability including in the phone, computer and other devices. It then went on create a revolution in the field of communication. Today around 500 million tweets are sent and received in the twitter in every 24 hours from all over the globe.

Term

Once the name Twitter was decided on, it focused on only the mobile phones segment as an easy medium for communication.  A five letter short code was however necessary for using it in the phone and it started with the word ‘twttr’, which later on got changed into Twitter, as the crew members added vowels to name it. The name clarified the mission of the company: Keeping things “simple, social, short, and tangible.”
