Technology Creates New Sources of Power
Power Is Easier To Get, But Harder To Use or Keep:
It is however certain that power is not constant and is bound to change. Like the Roman Empire which survived for a thousand years. England survived for centuries followed by U.S., which dominated for over seventy years. The current powers be it U.S or China is bound to fall, for a simple reason “the law of nature.” Nothing lasts forever.
One can easily assume power but cannot hold on to it over a period of time. Power is new in each new phase. Power to compel is no longer defined as power; it is now more about attracting. Today, strategy has less to do with increasing efficiencies and acquiring resources and more to do with widening and deepening networks of connections. No longer can one claim to be powerful when their country is closed.
Those who enhance their active connections with various other countries or economies have their luck to get to the centre of power. Unlike the older definitions which say powerful are the ones who are at the top of the world, powerful people are those who manage to maintain congenial relations and yet assert their dominance.
