Robust Mobile Growth Transforms India's Internet Usage


BENGALURU: Smartphones are the most popular devices that provide Indian user with the first-hand Internet experience. Mobile phones occupies 60 percent share of all shopping- related queries and over 50 percent of share of all travel- related queries. The mobile Internet users in India are estimated over 200 million, second highest in the world. The report released by Google India highlights the pace of internet growth in the country.

Online streaming site YouTube channel generates user views of over 60 percent from the mobile platform itself. The mobile phone has also created an impact in the classifieds space where 41 percent of job related searches are through it. Indian market is showing gradual upsurge in the online space, where growing number of e-commerce users have followed the trend of buying products starting from cosmetics to furniture online. The year 2015 saw 50 percent of women purchasing beauty products on the internet, 57 percent growth in home furnishing and 32 percent year over year growth in hyper local services queries. The year also embraced new age platforms by witnessing the internet adoption by old age groups seeking diverse variety of information. The searches for used cars also grew rapidly to 3 in 4 searching coming from tier 2 cities. A 100 percent y-o-y growth is witnessed in the Real estate searches from tier 2 cities as well.

The banking and insurance companies’ auto insurance product saw immediate adoption with 1 in 4 users buying the product. The health insurance queries also had an immense growth of over 50 percent over the mobile phones. Telcos introduced convenient services to enhance customer satisfaction and engagement. The service provider app saw 170 percent year – over –year growth in the queries.
