OpenAI Turns ChatGPT into Hub for Apps and AI Agents
  • ChatGPT now connects with third party apps like Spotify and Zillow
  • OpenAI launches AgentKit to help developers build AI agents
  • Smaller, faster models and open-source tools also announced

OpenAI is transforming ChatGPT into a powerful tech platform by adding direct integration with third party apps and launching new tools for developers. At its annual developer event, the company unveiled a feature called 'talking to apps', allowing users to connect ChatGPT with apps like Spotify, Zillow, Figma, Expedia, and Booking.com.

This means users can now ask ChatGPT to create a playlist, search for homes, or plan trips and it will pull data from connected services instantly. The goal is to make ChatGPT a central interface for interacting with a growing ecosystem of digital tools.

Alongside this, OpenAI introduced AgentKit, a new software toolkit that enables developers to build AI agents systems that can perform multi-step tasks automatically. Companies like Canva, Box, and Albertsons are already using it to develop AI driven workflows.

Sam Altman,CEO of OpenAI, described ChatGPT’s evolution as a move toward becoming an AI operating system. With more than 800 million weekly users, ChatGPT is rapidly expanding beyond its original chatbot role. The company expects $13 billion in revenue this year, up from $4 billion in 2024.

To support faster performance and broader use, OpenAI also announced smaller voice and image generation models, optimized for speed and lower costs. The company’s open source models have now reached 23 million downloads on Hugging Face, signaling strong developer interest.

These updates position ChatGPT not just as a chatbot, but as a tech platform for everyday tasks, developer innovation, and enterprise automation.
