Mercedes-Benz India has launched two new battery-electric vehicles, the G580 with EQ Technology and the EQS SUV 450, strengthening its electric vehicle portfolio. The G580 is priced at Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom), while the locally manufactured EQS 450 is available for Rs 1.28 crore (ex-showroom).
The G580, Edition One, has a 116kWh battery that feeds four individually controlled electric motors to deliver 432 kW (587 hp) and 1,164 Nm of torque. It is WLTP-certified for 473 km and accepts DC fast charging, which charges the battery from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes. The G580 is designed for extreme off-road conditions and features advanced capabilities such as G-TURN for 720-degree turns, G-STEERING for enhanced maneuverability, and G-Crawl for ultra-slow movement on rugged terrain. Its water-wading depth of 850 mm enhances its rugged performance.
Inside, the G580 boasts dual 12.3-inch digital displays integrated into the dashboard, with EQ-specific graphics replacing traditional controls for features like tank turns and low-range mode. Rear-seat passengers enjoy dual 11.6-inch touchscreens for entertainment. The SUV also comes equipped with a Burmester sound system, offering 18 speakers, Dolby Atmos, and 760 watts of system power. Its MBUX augmented reality navigation and Electric Dynamic Select provide five drive modes for optimal on-road and off-road performance.
The design for the G580 is largely set apart by a raised hood, flared rear wheel arches featuring air curtains, and an optional black-panel radiator grille that really improves its aerodynamic profile and bold-looking visual appeal. Combining these with superior angles of off-road movements and remaining a luxury-grade vehicle in design, the G580 offers a one-of-its kind set of electric luxury SUV sensibilities.
Another model that completes the lineup is the EQS SUV 450 produced from Mercedes-Benz's Pune facility in Chakan. It boasts a maximum output of 265 kW (360 hp) and 800 Nm of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. The ARAI-certified range for the EQS 450 is 821 km, and fast charging is supported up to 200kW, which brings 10-80% charge in 31 minutes.
With its focus on innovative and sustainable production, these launches showcase Mercedes-Benz as being deeply committed to becoming the leader of the luxury electric vehicle market in India. Such features as technological superiority, high-end luxury and outstanding performance bring both models within the company closer to the rising electric vehicle arena.
