Lubrizol to Open Technology and Innovation Centre in Maharashtra

Lubrizol, a leading US-based specialty chemicals company, has announced plans to establish a new technology and innovation centre in Maharashtra, India. This strategic move aims to foster innovation and enhance collaboration within Lubrizol by co-locating various laboratory capabilities and building on the success of its regional Centres of Excellence (COEs). The centre will feature a customer experience space to allow the company to develop solutions in close collaboration with its customers and partners.
The new facility will incorporate advanced analytical capabilities, including automation and digital tools, to support research activities. These tools will enable Lubrizol’s teams to use decision science for the faster development of next-generation solutions, driving innovation across multiple industries.
Rebecca Liebert, Lubrizol’s President and CEO, expressed that the centre will serve as a model for future global innovation hubs, aligning with the company's strategy to create interconnected innovation centres worldwide. She noted that Lubrizol's innovation teams in India have already contributed significantly to the company's success, earning global customer innovation awards, and the new centre is expected to further these achievements.
Dr. Rahul Misra, Lubrizol’s Senior Director of Technology for India, the Middle East, and Africa, highlighted the strategic location of the centre in Maharashtra, which is close to key stakeholders, fostering seamless collaboration. The innovation centre will combine Lubrizol's legacy in innovation with state-of-the-art technology to drive forward its research and development efforts.
The announcement of the centre follows a series of significant investments by Lubrizol in India, totaling $350 million over the last 18 months. These investments include the establishment of the company’s second-largest global manufacturing facility, which will support the growing transportation and industrial markets in the region. Lubrizol also plans to build the world’s largest CPVC resin plant, further cementing its commitment to expanding its presence in India. Additionally, Lubrizol opened a global capability centre in Pune and doubled its manufacturing capacity at its Dahej, Gujarat site.
