India's largest telecom service operator Reliance Jio is celebrating its ninth anniversary and milestone subscriber number of 500 million with a series of promotional offers. The initiative is intended to encourage customer loyalty, improve ARPU (average revenue per user), and reinforce its market leadership before its highly-anticipated IPO.
Between September 5 and October 5, Jio users on plans of Rs 349 and above will get one month of free unlimited data, and access to bundled entertainment and app subscriptions. Jio's unlimited 5G data offers currently apply only to users of 5G smartphones on high-end plans.
As part of a wider effort to retain customers, Jio will also offer unlimited free data to all 5G smartphone users over the September 5–7 weekend, regardless of plan tier. For 4G customers, a one-off Rs 39 weekend add-on pack will be available with unlimited use but a 3GB high-speed limit.
On top of anniversary benefits, Jio is also giving a free 13th-month recharge to users completing 12 successive recharges of Rs 349 or higher. Subscribers of the Rs1,200 JioHome Connection plan are eligible for two months of free service.
Though these are short-term offers, they are an extension of Jio's overall strategy to reinforce leadership in the market, push recurring revenue, and build out its digital ecosystem as it prepares for a possible listing.
