India is preparing to launch its biggest quantum computer in the near future, which is a part of the National Quantum Mission. The advanced machine is intended to solve intricate problems on both national and global levels. This quantum computer would be made possible through the partnership of IBM and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), revealed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) via its own social media handles. The DoT announcement featured a mysterious picture, challenging users to predict its future whereabouts. The breathtaking quantum computer will be based in the Quantum Valley Tech Park, Amaravati, which is the capital of Andhra Pradesh.
The most impressive aspect of this computer is its 156-qubit IBM Heron processor, which can perform millions of tasks at incredibly high speed.
IBM and TCS collaboration
Both TCS and IBM have made formal announcements for this project. While IBM will be responsible for constructing the hardware, TCS will be responsible for creating the software. The software giant will craft the algorithms and applications that will be instrumental in tackling significant issues of Indian industry and academia.
Nation Quantum Mission
National Quantum Mission is the Indian government's visionary move toward new technologies, identifying quantum computing as the frontier of the future. With this state-of-the-art quantum computer, many sectors are expected to gain, preparing India to equal the technological standards of developed countries.
In terms of capabilities, IBM's quantum computer will leverage Qiskit software and a range of additional resources. This quantum ecosystem aims to attract high-value jobs and facilitate global investments in the industry, fostering a robust and innovative landscape.
The Central Government has sanctioned the National Quantum Mission with a budget of Rs 6,003 crores to develop and advance scientific and industrial research in quantum technology. The ambitious plan involves an outlay of Rs 6,003.65 crores over 2023-24 to 2030-31.
