India Set to Advance in Quantum Technology and AI with US Collaboration: Union Minister
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, has said that with collaborations from the United States, India, under the lead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would soon make out-of-the-box headways in quantum technology, artificial intelligence, critical metals, and semiconductors. Dr. Jitendra Singh was interacting with a visiting delegation of the US–India Business Council.
The delegation called on the Union Minister to discuss areas of cooperation between the two, said the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Dr. Singh drew upon PM Modi's visit to the US recently, mentioning that both sides committed to deploying greenfield renewable energy, battery storage, and emerging green technologies in India.
Dr. Singh said India has a strategic vision in AI and machine learning, and he was hopeful that these advances could be integrated with USIBC through the AI task force formed by USIBC. "Department of Science and Technology is developing Large Language Models through this task force", said the minister.
If anything, India has really shown itself as a leader in next-generation technologies. That will be further fueled by initiatives that the government has launched, like 'Anusandhan NRF', similar in nature to the US National Research Foundation.
Dr. Singh reflected on India's scientific progress over the last decade and said that the biotech industry had grown to about $140 billion with more than 4,000 companies. He further quoted the example of the NISAR mission, stating that it demonstrated India's capability in space technology, given that it was a joint mission by NASA and ISRO.
Dr. Singh highlighted some of the new advances in the space policy that came with many benefits in the recent past.
Edward Knight lauded India's 'JAM' model and DBT initiatives, citing the efficacy of both. He invited the Minister for the '49th India Ideas Summit 2024', underlining mutual interest in deepening partnership in bilateral partnerships.
It was discussed the priorities of India in using international cooperation to drive technology and innovation, setting the scene for disruptive changes in key areas.
