IIT Madras, Jodhpur, Infosys Join Global AI Alliance
In a significant move reinforcing India's role in the global AI landscape, seven Indian organisations, including IIT Madras, IIT Jodhpur, and Infosys, joined the AI Alliance on Wednesday. The AI Alliance is a global community dedicated to advancing safe and responsible AI through open innovation.
The seven Indian organisations joining the Alliance are AI4Bharat (IIT Madras), IIT Jodhpur, Infosys, KissanAI, People+AI, Sarvam AI, and Wadhwani AI. IIT Bombay is also a founding member of the Alliance.
“India’s growing AI landscape presents unique opportunities and challenges. By joining the AI Alliance, these organisations can access global expertise and a collaborative network to tackle AI’s ethical and technical challenges for India”, said Dr. Amith Singhee, Director of IBM Research India and CTO of IBM India and South Asia.
India has made significant strides in AI adoption, with a vibrant developer community and a robust start-up ecosystem. The country is positioning itself as a global hub for AI talent and innovation.
The open-source approach to AI innovation aligns with the Indian government's vision of leveraging open-source technology for digital transformation. The AI Alliance provides Indian organisations the opportunity to collaborate and influence the global AI landscape while addressing India's unique needs.
Shivnath Thukral, Vice President and Head of Public Policy at Meta India, highlighted that the inclusion of Indian organisations in the Alliance reflects the country’s growing influence in deep tech globally.
Founded in 2023, the AI Alliance brings together technology developers, researchers, and industry leaders worldwide to promote safe, responsible AI rooted in open innovation. The collaboration enables members to contribute to shaping the future of AI globally while addressing regional challenges.
