IIT Madras and Jharkhand University partner to boost deep-tech in Jharkhand

IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation has forged a strategic alliance with Jharkhand University of Technology (JUT) located in Ranchi. The aim is to enhance the educational, innovative, and skill development landscapes in deep-tech fields within Jharkhand. This partnership prioritizes fostering innovation, honing skills, fostering collaboration between industry and academia, and providing support for startup incubation.
In the presence of Professor V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, Professor E Balagurusamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, Chennai, and other dignitaries, Dr. MJ Shankar Raman, CEO of IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, and Dr. DK Singh, Vice Chancellor of Jharkhand University of Technology, formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their strategic partnership. IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a Section 8 Company, is home to the Technology Innovation Hub focusing on Sensors, Networking, Actuators, and Control Systems. Funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, it operates within IIT Madras.
Speaking about this partnership, Professor V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “This MoU will propel the Start-up Ecosystem in Jharkhand for creating a culture of innovation, startups and entrepreneurship. Jharkhand has abundant natural resources and collectively we can improve the economy and quality of technical education of Jharkhand". "This MoU will establish the groundwork for fostering the development of Jharkhand University of Technology's Research Park, facilitating collaboration between academia and industry, promoting research, innovation, and incubation. Together, we aim to contribute to the advancement of Jharkhand and moving towards Viksit Bharat 2047".
Highlighting the unique aspects of this collaboration, Dr D.K Singh, Vice Chancellor, Jharkhand University of Technology, said, “This MoU will create an ecosystem in Jharkhand for establishing a culture of innovation, start-ups and entrepreneurship. Jharkhand has abundant natural resources and collectively, we can improve the economy and the quality of technical education in Jharkhand".
The primary components of this partnership entail harnessing the skill development endeavors of IITM Pravartak, fostering linkages between innovation centers, investigating opportunities for academic partnerships, and extending assistance to incubator projects. Additionally, this collaboration will aid industries and educational institutions in their pursuit of partnerships, streamline technology commercialization efforts, introduce courses pertinent to industry needs, and engage in initiatives aimed at curriculum enhancement.
