IIT Jodhpur's computer science and engineering department has created an advanced technology called the Novel MAC-based Authentication Scheme (NoMAS). This innovation is designed to minimize traffic congestion and reduce road accidents in India. NoMAS not only enhances vehicle security and intelligence but also tackles the various challenges prevalent on Indian roads.
It can contribute to road safety by enabling secure and real-time exchange of data on road conditions, accidents, and traffic jams among vehicles. This information can help drivers make informed decisions and avoid hazards, according to a professor associated with the technology's development.
Analyzing the data gathered and exchanged via the Internet of Vehicles network enables the identification of accident-prone zones, patterns of hazardous behavior, and road conditions in need of improvement. This information empowers authorities to take proactive measures to address these issues. Debasis Das, an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department, described this technology as a groundbreaking solution to improve both the security and efficiency of the Internet of Vehicles.
"With this technology, we have strived to address critical challenges in data protection, communication overhead, and security vulnerabilities", he said, adding that NoMAS can also help protect vehicles from theft and unauthorized use. Additionally, the researchers have created a driver recommendation system for next-generation transportation based on federated learning. A notable aspect of this system is its capacity to assess a driver's stress level through the analysis of driving patterns.
