Google has announced a $15 billion investment over the next five years to build a massive AI data centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This will be Google’s largest data infrastructure investment outside the United States and aims to create a major hub for artificial intelligence in India.
The initial phase of the project will include a 1 gigawatt data centre, designed to support the growing demand for AI computing power. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described the hub as the biggest AI facility the company is building globally outside the U.S. This investment is part of Google’s larger global plan to spend around $85 billion on expanding its data centre capacity this year.
The AI data centre in Andhra Pradesh is also part of a wider expansion across Asia, with similar projects planned or underway in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The development is expected to boost the local technology ecosystem by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing India’s digital capabilities.
