Google I/O Reveals Android M With 6 New Features

App Linking

The new Android M boasts the feature of app linking that is commonly known as Intents. The intents is the one that prompts when you click on a web link in a web browser or an app asking for a user’s permission to play or launch it on the user preferred app.

In Android M users won’t find this sort of prompt screen asking for the user to choose the app to take them further. The OS will verify the link with the app’s server and takes further steps without prompting the user.

Android Pay

Android Pay is a mobile payment and digital wallet by Android which uses near-field communication (NFC) to transfer money to pay bill. This feature needs no launching of app, just unlock the phone and place the device next to NFC terminal and the payment will be done.

Google says a virtual account will be created when a user adds his card details and the actual card number will be masked so that it won’t be shared with the store during money transaction. Android Pay will replace the Google Wallet app, the users can take advantage of this feature to make in-app payments if the apps are designed accordingly.

Fingerprint Support

Unlocking the phone with user’s fingerprint has swiped off the consumers around the world and the big player in Smartphone business also tend to sport this feature promising greater security. Hence, Google standardises the fingerprint sensor support and it can be used in Android Pay transaction as well as to make Play Store purchase.

Power Management

The latest Google OS is smarter than ever when it comes to power saving as well. The Android M features ‘Doze’ a smart power-managing functionality. Doze works by shutting down the power thirst apps by noticing the activity of a user on his phone. This feature will pair with motion detection sensor, if there is no motion sensed then the OS kills most of the unwanted processes.

However, Android M doesn’t shutdown all the processes on the device, still the user can receive calls, high priority notifications and activated alarms. According to Google’s observation, Doze feature helped the Nexus 9 to increase its standby-time nearly twice the usual.

Currently, Android M preview version is available but its final version will roll out in the Q3 this year.
