Eight Applications of Virtual Reality Outside Gaming
Entertainment
Apart from gaming, films and television are considered as the major growth fields for VR in the coming years. NextVR, a VR content company, aims to broadcast big sporting events in 3D virtual reality. They streamed an entire NBA basketball game last year through Samsung Gear VR. Other events broadcasted by NextVR include NASCAR and the US Open in Golf while CNN announced back in October that they will be broadcasting the US Democratic Presidential debate live to Samsung Gear VR. This presents the public with a chance to not only witness sporting events, but other unexplored fields such as political debates, in a virtualized environment. Besides, Oculus, the Facebook owned VR company, has entered into a partnership with 20th Century Fox to make movies available on its new VR cinema, Oculus Video. Thus, it is evident that VR is slowly opening up a new frontier in media and entertainment.
