The IRCTC Hack

In May, reports emerged about the alleged hacking of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website, India’s largest e-commerce platform. The reports also revealed that user data of more than 10 million accounts were stolen and subsequently put up for sale in cyber black markets. IRCTC dismissed the reports of data theft initially but a CBI probe was afterward ordered by the central government. In addition, IRCTC commenced its own internal investigation through a joint committee comprising of personnel from both IRCTC and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
