India's urban population has increased from 11.4 per cent in 1901 census to 34 per cent in 2017 states The World Bank. These smart cities have given a new dimension to the urbanization. According to Assocham and EY reports, IoT would have the potential to acquire nearly two billion connections in India which would gather profit close to $11.1 billion by 2022. Furthermore, the reports also point out that by 2022, about five mobiles connections per second are approximated to join the power of the internet.

Furthermore, while adopting such technologies, the government could follow some pre-defined strategies pertaining to which technologies they would take up.

These include embracing advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and integrating the results obtained with other solutions. Most of the hyperconnected cities collaborate with various businesses, local stakeholders, and educational institutions to acquire knowledge that would help in improvising the services ranging from health assistance to smart waste management to service the client better.

Lastly, these cities pay close attention to cybersecurity. They significantly invest in cybersecurity to ensure safety across their data networks. Hyperconnected cities tend to have wider exposure to the digital world and would be more prone to cyberattacks.
