Weather Monitoring – UAV’s can go the extra mile into weather forecasts, rewriting satellite predictions with verified real time analysis. Technology is already at disposal to develop drones that can withstand harsh conditions like approaching storms given we’ve already successfully deployed probes that do the same on extra terrestrial bodies. A team at the University of Florida is developing super resistant mini drones that could enter into hurricanes and provide valuable information such as humidity, pressure, temperature, path etc. beforehand.

NASA’s Global Hawk UAV’s in a NOAA led initiative the The Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology (SHOUT) project would collect data on temperature, moisture, wind speed and direction which would be directed to National Weather Service forecast models at the National Hurricane Center. This year the drone is set to bring valuable insights from El Nino weather system.
