Meet Google's New Self-Driving 'Pod' Car

BENGALURU: From petrol to diesel cars and from battery to driverless cars? Imagine a car driving all by itself without a driver to drive it. Here comes Google’s latest self-driven car, a pod-like-two seater that runs without gas and more interestingly no Steering wheel. The vehicle is built from scratch and has a mission to make driverless cars available to customers in the next five-years, reports ET

Here are some of the facts to know

Speed

The Pod is not designed for long drives and lacks air bags which make it travel up to 25 miles per hour. The pod went viral in a video campaign in May 2014 and later the company revealed a completely new designed version which had functioning headlights and a removable steering wheel.

Battery

It is completely electric and has been used on 20 specially modified vehicles like the Lexus Rx crossover on roads. It calls for recharging every 80 miles and is restricted to driving in areas that are only mapped.
