How To Block Spam Texts On Your Android And iOS Phone


BANGALORE: We all hate spam SMS, it is annoying. Technology is so advanced that there are options to block these spam texts on your smartphone, reports PC world.

spam SMSIf you're using iPhone which is running on iOS 7, all you need to do is ,open the message, tap Contact, then tap the little "i" button that appears.

Next, you'll see a blank contact card for the spammer who sent you the message. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap "Block this caller." And it’s done.

If you want to view the blocked people, go to Settings, Messages, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen, and then tap Blocked. To remove someone from the list, swipe the number or address from right to left, then tap the red Unblock button.

For Android users, it is a little complicated as there are plenty of apps available on the Google Play store.  If your phone hasn't been updated to Android "KitKat" yet, download sms blocking app which is free.

Once you are done uploading the app, go to Settings, "About phone," then check the number that's listed under "Android version." If the number is 4.3 or below, your phone isn't running on KitKat yet.

If you are using Android version 4.4 or above, then your device will need a new default messaging app that's capable of blocking SMS spam.

And there are plenty of third-party messaging apps on Google Play, such as EvolveSMS and SMS Blocker which automatically detects and blocks "suspected" SMS spam.

Another option is Google's own Hangouts app which not only sends and receives standard SMS messages but lets you place spammers on a "blocked" list.

Here's how to block SMS spam with Hangouts on your KitKat-enabled phone. Go to Settings, tap "More" under Wireless and Networks, then tap "Default SMS app."

Once the list of apps on your phone including Hangouts, Tap Hangouts appears, then head back to your phone's home screen. Open Hangouts and automatically  all the old text messages gets imported. If you see any spam text, open the message, tap the three-dot menu button in the top corner of the screen and then tap "people and options." And block the number under Hangout Options.

If you want to view the list of blocked people, tap the three-dot menu button again, tap Settings, SMS, and then tap "Blocked numbers" to see the blacklist. If you want to unblock a user, tap on the unblock button next to their name and it’s done.
