BENGALURU: A few days back, University of Calgary in Canada was subject to an unprecedented cyber attack demanding a ransom of 20,000 US dollars. The attacker encrypted the university’s computer networks which had critical research data. The sad part, however, was that the university heeded to the attacker’s demands and paid the ransom. Cyber attacks are proliferating at an alarming rate globally raising many questions over the existing security infrastructures within organizations. If recent reports are to be believed, even Mark Zuckerberg fell prey to these dreaded cyber criminals.
