BANGALORE: The latest news in the social networking site space was that the long loved and active site “Orkut” was shut down by Google after years in service for Google. In the same way many networking sites over the years were started but didn’t last long.

These forerunners of the social networking sites captivated the hearts of the old and also amazed the present generation as these were the one of a kind tool for people decades back. Nowadays with the advancement in technology and better systems these older sites are not able to stand against the test of the newer social sites. So here is a list of the some of the sites that were shut down over the years.

ConnectU:

This social site was created by Harvard graduates who happen to be the friends of Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook.

This site was originally called HarvardConnect, but later went public, but could not stand against the test of Facebook.

Mark launched Facebook around the same time as ConnectU and because of which the two parties have been to court for quite a few times. This site is at present inactive whereas Facebook is the most popular Social networking site on earth right now.

The Hub:

The Hub is a site created by the retail giant and well known store branch “walmart”. It was founded back in 2006, which aimed at students and teens that allowed them to message and share pictures.
