Yashoda AI Empowers Women with Digital Literacy in Bareilly Workshop
- Yashoda AI, led by NCW, conducts women-centric AI literacy workshops in Bareilly and beyond, aiming to bridge the digital divide in rural and semi-urban India.
- The program empowers grassroots women with tools like the AI Digital Passport and Literacy Toolkit, offering hands-on learning in Hindi on AI use, digital safety, and cyber rights.
- With 11 workshops completed across states, Yashoda AI emphasizes inclusion, gender equality, and community-driven tech adoption positioning women as active agents in India’s digital future.
A women's AI literacy and digital awareness workshop was conducted at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The workshop is a part of the Yashoda AI program, which seeks to enable women to make meaningful contributions toward an inclusive and technologically driven India. The National Commission for Women (NCW) is spearheading this effort, with a focus on rural and semi-urban areas.
Yashoda AI endeavours to democratise artificial intelligence by using inclusivity as its centre of gravity. It wants to close the digital divide and ensure AI literacy among under-represented communities, including women and community stakeholders. The initiative offers technical exposure and contextual insight, allowing these communities to be directly involved in an AI-enabled future.
The program was formally rolled out in May at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Since then, it has also diversified its footprint through strategic interactions with local people in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Gujarat. For example, police personnel in Moradabad participated in a cross-sectoral discussion on the ethical use of AI. "Grassroot women are not only learning about AI; they are inquiring how to apply it to their families, farms, and future. That is empowerment at its best", Vijaya Rahatkar, NCW Chairperson, said at the launch.

Yashoda AI's distinct strategy is that it emphasizes grassroots mobilization over elite tech talks. Through the integration of gender equality and content localization, the program educates AI with a social justice approach. It breaks new ground by engaging actively those who are normally left out of digital discourse.
The project features major tools such as the AI Passport and AI Literacy Toolkit. The AI Digital Passport is an individualized book released in Hindi that assists women in monitoring their progress while using different AI tools. It facilitates learning between tasks like daily tasks done with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. The AI Literacy Toolkit instructs women on how artificial intelligence affects their digital world. It exists in Hindi and addresses issues of online safety such as stalking and cyberbullying alongside giving women hands-on tips on how to use AI ethically. It also educates women about their rights and legal action against cyber abuse.
As of July 2025, Yashoda AI has implemented 11 workshops reaching various segments of society ranging from rural women to first-time technology users, law enforcement officers, and local leaders. Each workshop weaves together accessibility with depth to ensure learning is actionable and transformative.
Sagar Vishnoi, Director of Future Shift Labs said "Yashoda AI is not simply a matter of unpacking artificial intelligence for the masses. It is about taking control in a digital era". The program makes sure that women are not only beneficiaries but also participating agents of the digital revolution. The Yashoda AI program is representative of India's vision for a developed nation powered by technology inclusion. By equipping women with vital competencies in AI, cybersecurity, and digital safety, it seeks to build an ecosystem where all voices matter in determining technological futures.
