BENGALURU: Earlier, Xiaomi was stuck by a huge controversy about data security for stealing data and later with a ban order suspending the sales of Xiaomi devices. But things don’t seem to go right as the company has further run into more problems after a patent infringement case was filed by telecom equipment maker Ericsson, reports Reuters.

Xiaomi Technology, which started its India operation in July, quickly became the country's fastest growing Smartphone brand with minimal marketing; in addition it even outsold likes of biggies like Apple, Samsung and Google's low cost Android phones.

But this success run hasn’t stayed for long as Xiaomi received a patent infringement case which was filed by telecom equipment maker Ericsson on eight of its patents related to 3G and other technologies. In addition Ericsson alleges that it even sent out several proposals to Xiaomi to obtain licenses before it entered the Indian market in July. But it was said that the use patents related to GSM, EDGE and WCDMA technologies were violated by Xiaomi.

Following this, Xiaomi’s legal team has said that it will act in full compliance with Indian laws and cooperate with Ericsson to resolve the matter. Furthermore, the company even stated it had prior discussions with Ericsson on patent infringement but did not elaborate further.

Xiaomi became the world’s third-largest Smartphone maker, with 19 million Smartphones sold, in the third quarter of this year, as per the data from the consultancy IHS. But with court ban in overseas market and patent issues, industry analysts expect greater pressure in home, particularly since two of its fiercest handset rivals, Huawei and ZTE Corp, are among the top telecom patent holders in China.
