WhatsApp Updates iOS App With Voice Calling, Mutiple Video Sharing & More
BANGALORE: The mobile messaging app, Whatsapp, will now have voice calling for iPhone users too. The Facebook owned company released a major update of voice calling on iOS along with several other features. The service was already made available for the Android users and finally the wait is over for the iPhone users too, reports the Indian Express.
The latest update, version 2.12.1 of Whatsapp will bring the voice calling feature that had been in process for quite some time and has been finally rolled out to the users. According to apple’s iTune store, “Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country. WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply. Note: WhatsApp Calling is rolling out slowly over the next several weeks.”
The app may take a few weeks to go live on the phones that received the update.
In addition to this, the new update comes with a feature of attaching photos, videos and links directly through Photos app, the Camera on iOS. The videos can now be edited, rotated and cropped before sending. The feature to share multiple videos along with added captions to them will be active on the new version. Even contacts can be edited on the app itself.
Jan Koum, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO, posted on Facebook, “WhatsApp – now serving 800,000,000 monthly active users. Reminder for the press out there: active and registered users are not the same thing.”
This new feature has proved to be beneficial for the company as it drew 700 million monthly active users since the announcement of the update in January.
However, Whatsapp is still behind its daddy Facebook when it comes to active users. The mobile messaging app has around 800 million active users while Facebook leads with 1 billion active users.
On the other hand, Whatsapp is ahead in the race against China’s WeChat which currently has 5 million active customers.
