According to GSMArena, that one Reddit user called pradnesh07 was able to get the feature activated on his Nexus 5, running on Android Lollipop. The users who received the voice-calling feature will notice an icon for it beside the Chats and Contacts tab.

However, this new update was seen only on Android 5.0 and 5.0.x users only. Don’t keep your hopes high if you’re using an Android 4.4 or lower version and also if you’re an iOS user. Telecom companies across India has gone for help from TRAI to ban these web-based apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, Line, Viber in order to quell the loss of SMS and voice revenues.

It is the WhatsApp’s new strategy, having released the free voice calling feature in a limited way. This also buys some time and feedbacks for the company, both of which will be needed to rectify any troublesome bugs.
