WhatsApp Gets Smarter with AI Writing Tool

- WhatsApp is testing a new AI-powered Writing Help tool using Meta AI.
- The feature allows users to rephrase, proofread, or change the tone of their messages.
- It’s optional, private, and must be manually enabled in settings.
WhatsApp is set to make messaging smarter with a new feature aimed at helping users improve their texts before sending them. The tool, named Writing Help, is currently being tested in the app’s Android beta version 2.25.23.7, according to WaBetaInfo.
The feature uses Meta’s in house artificial intelligence model, Meta AI, to assist users with writing. It can rephrase messages, proofread, correct grammar, and even adjust tone. Options like Professional, Funny, and Rephrase allow users to tailor their messages based on different contexts.
Importantly, using this tool is completely optional. Users who prefer to send their original messages can continue doing so. The feature is off by default and can be enabled manually in the app’s settings.

Meta has assured users that privacy remains a priority. Messages edited with the help of AI will still be protected with end to end encryption. Also, recipients won’t be able to tell if a message was edited by the AI tool.
In addition to text support, WhatsApp is also testing a new voice chat feature powered by Meta AI. This will allow users to speak with an AI assistant that has a dynamic halo icon, similar to Siri or Google Assistant. The Chabot will be able to answer questions, provide information, and carry out tasks using voice commands with user permission to access the microphone and speakers.
These updates are part of Meta’s larger plan to integrate AI into its apps, making every day messaging more helpful, interactive, and personalized.
