Videocon Introduces 'Panic Button' in All Smartphones
BENGALURU: The Indian smartphone company announced the inclusion of ‘Panic Button’ feature across its whole range of smartphones, starting from the model Cube 3 at a price of 8490. An emergency response app named as ‘SOS-Be Safe’ is also launched by the company. As reported by the Tech 2 website, this initiative by Videocon is in support of government’s provision of adding ‘Panic Button’ in all smartphones.
Earlier, the department of telecommunications (DoT) issued a notice to all mobile handset manufacturers to must include panic button and GPS systems in all smartphones by January 2017 and January 2018. Videocon implemented the government circular with its new inclusion of Panic Button and SOS-Be Safe app. The application uses the power button as a panic button and sends alert to the numbers included in the emergency list.
The SOS feature comes with three functions named as, Alarm, Walk with me and Reach on Time. The Walk with Me feature allows users to send an alert to family and friends in case of any emergency. Reach on Time feature enables them to set location notification along with the normal traveling time. The Alarm feature lets users to utilize the power button for setting the alarm and customizing the message to send while notifying the emergency contacts.
The SOS-Be Safe app has a function of providing map view of nearby hospitals and police stations. The first smartphone featuring this app is Videocon Cube 3. The smartphone is launched with a 5-inch display, 3GB RAM, 4G VoLTE, 13MP rear camera, and 3000mAh battery.
As explained by Akshay Dhoot, Technology and Innovation Head of Videocon, company is aiming to create indigenous devices to cope up with the country’s increasing demand for smartphone. The recent government’s provision to create mobiles with emergency response facilities will empower all the cell phone users with extra security. The company is confident about Cube3 handset featuring ‘SOS-Be Safe’ that it will help users in emergency situations.
