Uber Vouches to Replace Parking Areas with Green Spaces
BENGALURU: With globalization and multinational companies sweeping into our economy, the world today has moved into “Shared Economy” and “Collaborative consumption”. India has also become the exploration and experimentation point of the many technological disruptors that have successfully been able to transform the transportation and the hospitality landscape be it Ola, Uber, Oyo Rooms or AirBnB. At the TED2016 conference held at the Vancouver Convention Center back to back talks were held by Uber co-founder Trevor Kalanick and AirBnB co-founder Joe Gebbia that threw glimpse on the evolution of two most popular and sort after disruptors in the world, as compiled by Chidanand Rajghatta for Times News Network.
The Uber co-founder Trevor Kalanick at the TED2016 while addressing the audience said, “Our mission has been to maintain free land spaces while exploring many ways, alternatives into our transport. We have always thought on how to turn every car into a shared car in order to reclaim our city spaces and look into ways that will be able to replace most of our parking spaces with parks,” reports TNN. The popularity of the ride share app company Uber has increased in India and has not only been limited to the car fleets, but has also ventured into UberPooling in many cosmopolitan, metropolitan, and several other cities in India, world. Adding further credence to the already exiting laurels the company has also ventured into food delivery (UberFresh) to courier service (UberRush) and the novel water taxis (UberBoat).
The talk was then followed by Joe Gebbia the co-founder of AirBnB who spoke of the challenges they are facing in India. When asked about the solutions in long-term housing and lodging in India Gebbia says, “Where local upstarts like Oyo rooms are muscling into its market with its knowledge of local ethos and terrain, their company would stick to its strength in short-term hospitality for now.” “I don't think anyone would like to share their home with strangers for long periods of time,” Gebbia went on to say.
