Two New SMARC Modules to Boost up Kontron
BENGALURU: Kontron, after launching of its SMARC Certified Design Partner Program back in August of 2014, now the global provider of Embedded Computing Technology (ECT) has upped its mark in the industry by launching its two brand new SMARC specification modules of its version 2.0, according to Kontron.com.
The new 2.0 version is meant to support compatibility issues with the older version which is V1.1 pins and these are meant not to damage the modules which were then placed in the V2.0 compliant carrier. The interfaces in V1.1 were rarely used and so removed from the specification which included Parallel Display Interface, Clock Request signals, Presence of PCI Express, SPDIF and eMMC. So now Kontron is planning to release two SMARC modules based on this new 2.0 version of the application.
However the new interface includes a 2nd channel LVDS with a 2nd Ethernet port, IEEE1588 Trigger Signals, a 4th PCI Express Lane, extra USB ports; including 6x USB 2.0 + 2x USB 3.0, x86 power management signals, eSPI and DP++. It also includes three digital displays and as primary display 2x 24 bit LVDS or eDP MIPI DSI (4 channels) can be used, the secondary display can either be HDMI or DP++ and the third display can be DP++.
In a way, the SMARC 2.0 specifications provide an enhanced pinout to fit better to customer needs and processor interfaces which are future compatible. The company thinks that by introducing these two new SMARC 2.0 modules which will be the perfect match for a module standard across the industry and is now will be fully open to cater X86 processors as well.
