TRAI vs. Facebook: 5-Point Guide to the Net Neutrality Uproar
What is Net neutrality and how is it related with Free Basics and why should I care?
Net Neutrality basically means that all content on the internet must be available to all the users at the same speed and same price regardless of the telecom operator you are paying to use the internet services. What Free Basics wants to do is divide the applications and content available on the internet into lobbies where you will have to pay differently to use different applications, in-turn diluting Net neutrality. Well this not only affects the small content user but also affects the small start ups and other organizations! So if a small content user wants to use a certain application, you will have to buy a net-pack associated with that application from Facebook. Any application cannot be accessed for free. Similarly for a small start-up owner, it would be difficult to set up a business as it would not have enough fund to connect with Facebook and have a presence on its application (Free Basics).
