Today is Safer Internet Day, Things you Should Know About it!

Internet is the environment or the ecosystem where we live in this modern world of technologies. But, it is well-known to everybody that it is not safe in the cyber world. Today (February 11th 2020), the world is celebrating the ‘Safer Internet Day’, which is an annual worldwide event that goes a long way in raising awareness for better consumption of Internet i.e. safety and education. Around 150 countries globally are following the Safer Internet Day (SID), intending to increase awareness about emerging online issues. Currently, cyber-bullying and others are a major concern and the theme for this year is ‘Together for a better internet’.

After China, India is the second-largest online market in the world and as per the data by Statistics, India will be having 564.5 million internet users in 2020. When internet is used or consumed correctly, it is one of the most powerful platforms to utilize. With the introduction of Machine Learning, AI, IoT, and Analytics, there is a significant increase in the complexity and the sophistication of cyber threats. But, organizations and individuals must be aware of the consequences, as there are chances the data can be used or shared with someone who can be far away from you. It is vital to check and evaluate the platforms and applications to understand the level of security in the organizations.

The workplace collaboration and communication platforms must have in-built enterprise security features like the privacy of messages, data encryption and personal data, along with that; it also has strict controls over data access and user rights. With SID, the organizations across the world to invest in the training of their IT teams and employees with the proper knowledge and skill-sets required to get rid of the current cyber threats. Understanding the fact that no system is unhackable, is disheartening, but with some effective measures, organizations can practice the chances of compromising the security.
