Threads Tests Text Attachment Feature for Long Form Posts

- Threads is testing a new text attachment feature for long form content sharing.
- The feature allows users to post articles, excerpts, and deeper thoughts directly in a single post.
- Unlike X’s ‘Articles’, Threads tool is free and currently text only.
Threads, Meta’s fast growing social media platform, is testing a new feature that could reshape how creators and writers share long form content online. The new ‘text attachment’ tool lets users add extended text blocks to their posts, offering an alternative to multi-post threads or screenshot workarounds.
Spotted by app researcher Radu Oncescu, the feature allows users to attach longer content like news snippets, book excerpts, or full articles within a single post. A preview appears in a gray box, and users can click it to read the full text.
This move positions Threads as a direct competitor to platforms like X and Substack, especially for writers and content creators looking to publish directly to their audience. While X limits its ‘Articles’ feature to premium subscribers, Threads version is currently free for all users. However, it only supports text, while X allows multimedia.
Meta confirmed that the feature is still in the testing phase and will be rolled out to more users over time. It’s part of a broader effort to make Threads more versatile and creator friendly.

Threads recently crossed 400 million monthly active users, just two years after its launch. The platform has rolled out several other updates, including direct messaging, fediverse integrations, and AI powered features to enhance user experience and stay competitive.
X, in comparison, boasts over 600 million monthly active users, but Threads is rapidly catching up by focusing on ease of use and open access to new tools.
This new feature could significantly boost engagement and content quality on Threads, offering a built in platform for thoughtful, longer content without leaving the app.
