This $20 Life Saver Can Rescue 70,000 Mother's Around The Globe A Year
BANGALORE: Pregnancy or giving birth to a child; the process of getting a new life into the world is for what women are praised next to god. Pregnancy situations of some sort are quite complicated, sometimes while in the process of giving life, the mother dies.
The reasons behind these deaths may be numerous, but the prime one to be identified is during childbirth the loss of blood leads the patient to go into shock.
Due to this around 300,000 lives are lost around the globe; this count goes into the account of developing countries as the developed countries take precautions prior to the labor.
If these shock deaths can be prevented at the cost of $20 a patient, it will be acclaimed as the ‘holy grail’ of maternal healthcare as said by a leading obstetrician.
Developed by a team of doctors at one of London's leading hospitals led by Professor Andrew Sherman, is the first device in medical industry that can detect whether a woman is likely to go into shock after blood loss during childbirth.
Known as Microlife Vital Signs Alert (VSA), can be charged through a USB cable as a mobile. It is devised on a traffic light system that clearly indicates the risk of shock or high blood pressure – green if woman not at risk, amber if she needs to be carefully monitored, or red in case she requires emergency treatment.
