The 15th Bangalore India BIO: 'Make In India-Innovate In India'
BENGALURU: India’s biggest event on biotechnology to cover the impact of biotechnology on agriculture and healthcare. The city is now being hailed as the BT Capital, apart from the already existing title called, IT Capital.
The 15th edition of the India’s premier biotech event Bangalore INDIA BIO 2015 was inaugurated in the city by Shri Siddaramaiah, Hon’ble Chief Minister, State of Karnataka. The event started its three day journey in the presence of chief guests, Shri Prakash Javadekar, Hon’ble Minister of State, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India & Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, Government of India. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson, Karnataka Vision Group on Biotechnology; Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon Limited was one of honorable guests present at the event.
Jointly organized by the Department of Information technology, Bio Technology and Science & Technology, Vision Group on Biotechnology and MM Actives Sci-Tech Communications, the focal theme for this year’s summit is "Crystallizing India’s Biotech Future". This edition has over 22 Conference Sessions, 110 Impact Speakers, 3000+ Business visitors, over 15 International Delegations from UK , Scotland , USA , France ,Germany , Holland , Singapore, Korea, Japan, Australia to name a few.
There will be several sessions spread over these 3 days. Some of the key topics of discussion during these sessions include,
1. Agri-Biotech, Clinical trials in India and Rare diseases & Orphan Drug Development.
2. U.S.-India vaccine research & collaboration
3. Going beyond the Start-up with effective scaling strategies- a special pavilion dedicated for start-up.
The inauguration that was followed by the key-note lectures given by the Honorable Chief Minister Siddharamaiah, Minister of State for Forest and Climate Change, Piyush Goyal and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson Karnataka Vision Group of Biotechnology were remarkable. They trio emphasized on the immense potential of Indian Biotechnological more so in Bangalore. Home Grown Innovation was cited the future of India. Kiran state that India has been largely contributing to the latest Bio-tech trends globally and most of it coming from Bangalore.
Here again Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Flagship project—Make in India was given utter importance. In biotech terms Kiran laid down the foundations for ‘Innovate in India’.
Prof. K Vijaya Raghavan promised that that government is looking forward to removing the barriers that have been holding the young entrepreneurs. As of now Indian Government spares $25Mn for R&D in India, he said that it can soon go up to $100Mn. He also said that the regulations which do not deem fit in today’s innovations will soon be cut down.
