Specialize in Full Stack Engineering and Software Product Management with M.Tech. Software Engineering from BITS Pilani WILP

Considering the current and ever-evolving trends and requirements in the software industry, the M.Tech. Software Engineering programme from the Work Integrated Learning Programmes (WILP) division of Birla Institute of Technology &  Science (BITS), Pilani, has now been redesigned to help working professionals specialize in some of the fastest growing domains as well, such as Full Stack Engineering and Software Product Management.

This M.Tech. programme also covers a full stack of other key technologies and competencies that are required by both working professionals and organizations in the

software industry today. A comprehensive curriculum and extensive emphasis on experiential learning using remote and cloud labs enable working professionals to acquire this highly valued post graduate engineering degree from BITS Pilani, an Institute of Eminence (IoE), while continuing to pursue their careers, without a break. The programme is of four semesters, with online classes conducted mostly on the weekends or after business hours.

How does this M.Tech. programme help working professionals?

Among several key objectives, this programme primarily helps working professionals in gaining skills required for eliciting user needs, designing, implementing, and releasing an effective solution by employing state-of-the-art full stack frameworks and technologies; in enhancing their competency in evaluating and adapting software development processes, and in tools needed for a range of applications from the conventional web/mobile apps to the modern cross-platform and cloud-native apps; and in improving their readiness to take an idea from concept through prototype creation to market launch with the help of tried- and-true methodologies practised in software product management.

Elaborating further about the value proposition of the M.Tech. Software Engineering programme, Prof. Nishit Narang, who heads the Computer Science and Information Systems group of BITS Pilani WILP, says, “Depending on their roles, progression for working professionals in today’s software industry typically calls for either learning a full stack of multiple technologies, acquiring an ability to architect high impact solutions, envisioning and designing great new products, or enhancing their ability to address complex problems and manage cross functional collaborations, among several other aspects. Besides key focus on Full Stack Engineering and Software Product Management, this programme helps working professionals address various career objectives in an effective manner, as they can choose from a set of core and elective courses, including software architectures, Cloud Computing, Blockchain Technologies & Systems, Cyber Security, and Software Quality Assurance and Testing.”

Learning methodology

The education delivery methodology is a blend of online classroom and experiential learning, which consists of lab exercises, assignments, case studies, and work integrated activities. These lectures can be attended via the internet using a computer from any location. These online classrooms offer similar levels of interactivity as regular classrooms at the BITS Pilani campus. The Dissertation (Project Work) in the final semester also enables students to apply concepts and techniques learnt during the programme.
