Samsonite Introduces Baggage Tracking Technology with Track&Go
BENGALURU- To address the issues of missing baggage during travel, the global luggage manufacturer and retailer Samsonite has introduced Track&Go, a beacon device to help tourists easily and privately track their ‘smart’ suitcases. In collaboration with Spanish wireless electronic solution provider Accent Systems, Samsonite has developed this Bluetooth beacon device on top of Eddystone Ephemeral Identifiers (EIDs)—an open Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon IDs from Google as reported by tech.firstpost.com.
Installed within the Samsonite suitcases, Track&Go device gets activated and tracks once the owner reports about missing luggage through Travlr by Samsonite App that primarily offers flight tracking and tips within 70 meters perimeter. With this innovative concept, the luggage brand is looking forward to reduce the stress level of travelers. According to a research by SITA, an air transport IT and communications specialist and the developer of World Tracer System for baggage, there were nearly 24.1 million missing or temporary misled bags in 2014 globally as the air passenger numbers rose to 3.3 billion. Although all major airlines companies provide bag-tracking system, there are still numerous missing bag cases take place outside airports. Samsonite’s Track&Go addresses this matter by picking up the luggage’s EID encrypted signal from the luggage which identifies the lost pieces. This triggers a notification only to the luggage’s registered owner, which specifies the exact location of the suitcase.
“Missing or permanently lost luggage is the nightmare of every traveler. As the leading luggage manufacturer, we wanted to find a way to make this issue a thing of the past. By leveraging Google’s robust, secure and cross-platform approach, we feel confident that travelers will welcome this new solution,” says Ramesh Tainwala, CEO at Samsonite.
