  • APT, developed indigenously by CEPT on MeghRaj 2.0 cloud with BSNL network, enables QR-code payments, OTP deliveries, DIGIPIN, and advanced analytics for efficiency and transparency
  • Over 4.6 lakh employees trained, rollout completed nationwide on Aug 4, 2025, with scalability proven through 32 lakh bookings and 37 lakh deliveries in a single day

The Union Minister of Communications and DoNER, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, has launched IT 2.0 Advanced Postal Technology (APT), a significant digital transformation for India Post, on a nationwide basis. The system has been implemented in all 1.65 lakh post offices, in a revolutionary move to modernise postal operations and drive the government's Digital India and Make in India vision.

APT is an extension of the previous IT Modernisation Project and offers a faster, more robust, and citizen-centric technology platform. The new system has been designed indigenously by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) and is based on the Government of India's MeghRaj 2.0 cloud platform with BSNL's large connectivity network. Officials say that APT will improve postal and financial services, making them accessible and inclusive, particularly in rural India.

Addressing the inauguration, Scindia stated, "APT will make India Post a world-class public logistics organisation. With Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji taking the lead from the front, this is Aatmanirbhar Bharat in all its might, setting the stage for a stronger, self-reliant Digital India".

The new platform offers a number of innovations such as microservices-based application with open API design, one unifying interface, and end-to-end digital solutions from booking to delivery. QR-code payments, OTP-based deliveries, open network platform for rural reach, and a new 10-digit alphanumeric DIGIPIN are meant to enhance efficiency and accuracy in delivery. Advanced reporting and analytics capabilities will also enable enhanced tracking and transparency.

The implementation was done in phases, starting with a pilot in Karnataka from May to June 2025. The learnings from the pilot were integrated prior to spreading to Jharkhand in July. The countrywide implementation was done on August 4, 2025, with all 23 postal circles and over 1.70 lakh offices post offices, mail offices, and admin units now live.

Having understood the role of training in making it a success, India Post groomed more than 4.6 lakh employees through a cascade model involving Master Trainers, User Champions, and End-Users. Such a large program ensured that the roll-out was smooth at the national level. The system has already demonstrated its scalability, with over 32 lakh bookings and 37 lakh deliveries in a day.

With IT 2.0 implemented, India Post has re-established itself as a contemporary, technology-enabled service provider while sustaining its heritage of trust, financial access, and unparalleled coverage of urban and rural India.
