Rent movie on iTunes to Free up Your iPhone Memory

BENGALURU: On an Apple 16GB device, the user gets approximately 11GB of user accessible storage as the rest of it is used by the Apple operating system. For the iPhone fans who are struggling for some storage extension with their 16 GB devices, there is good news for you. iPhone owners can now quickly free-up storage space on their devices without deleting any apps, music or photos, with a simple trick that works if you have less than a gigabyte of available space on your smartphone or tablet.

A thread on social networking site Reddit, demonstrates a crazy trick you can try to reclaim some of the used-up space in your Apple device. To try out the trick, you have to rent a movie from iTunes store. Then, go to Settings > General > About and scroll down to "Available". Confirm the storage space left in the device and then head to the iTunes Store. Then click "Rent" at the top of the page. For the trick to work, the film you attempt to rent from iTunes should exceed the amount of storage left on your Apple device. Now click "Rent" at the top of the page. Then a message will prompt saying "you don't have enough available storage". Choose ‘settings’ from the selection.

Once you get redirected to the Settings menu on the device, checkout the available storage space at General > Storage & iCloud Usage where you can see a considerable increase in the space. This is most probably because your iPhone will be quietly cleaning a number of your installed apps, removing data, cookies and in-app histories you no longer need. Apple does kick-start this process automatically when you're particularly on low memory space, but this is a great way to force the process. The Reddit page also suggests repeating these steps few more times to free up more storage space.
