Now Make Videos with Friends From Facebook's Riff

BANGALORE: Facebook has launched another missile at its rival Snapchat, in the form of Riff. Riff is a new app released recently on the App Store and Google Play that allows users to create collaborative videos with their friends.

The app was made by Facebook’s Creative Labs.  Product Manager, Josh explained the app’s workings:  “All you have to do is give it a topic, like #AprilFools, then your friends can view it and choose to add their own clips on that topic. Once a friend adds a clip to your video, your friend’s friends will also be shown the video in Riff and will be able to add to it.”

Mimicking Snapchat, Riff uses the front camera by default and allows the users shoot from within the app. However, the new app does not allow you to import videos from the camera roll. Riff can be shared privately with friends, or with the world at large through social networks or a URL.

Industry analysts are watching closely to determine whether Riff will be as successful as Snapchat’s Snapchat Stories or Twitter’s Vine.

At present, the most watched video on Riff is ‘Balancing act’, a chain of videos showing users and their pets balancing objects on their head. It is a chain of eight videos and has been viewed more than 7000 times.
