BENGALURU: Since selling their mobile device division to Microsoft, there has been lots of doubt over the future of Nokia. But that’s not likely now as the company has surprised many by unveiling an Android Lollipop run tablet, the N1, reports Anupam Saxena of TOI.  

The tablet that very similarly looks like the Apple's iPad mini will essentially be sold as a reference design to OEM partners who will also be able to use the brand by paying royalty. 

So what has it got to offer? Powered by a 2.3GHz Intel Z3580 64-bit Atom processor and 2GB RAM, the tablet sports a 7.9-inch IPS display with LED backlight. The fully-laminated zero air-gap display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and comes with a 32GB internal storage and a microSD card slot. Mostly importantly, the device runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop with Nokia Z Launcher running on top.

When it comes to camera the N1 tablet sports an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front-focus camera, along with 1080p (full-HD) video recording, which is a great feature to cheer about. Some of the other default features include a 3.5mm headset jack, Micro-USB 2.0 Type-C reversible connector, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity options. The tablet has a 5300mAh battery, which is well mounted on its one-piece aluminium body and surface anodization.

According to Nokia, the N1 will be brought for purchase in China in Q1 2015 for an estimated price of $249 before taxes and will be available in natural aluminium and lava gray colors.
