New Railway App to Provide Advanced Passenger Facilities

BENAGALURU: Successfully booking a tatkal ticket is no less than winning a battle. Given that we live in a time where everything is app based and online, then standing in a long queue from early morning 5am to book a 10am ticket seems really gruesome.  Being one of the largest railway networks in the world, booking tickets for travel or for an itinerary is the most difficult task even today.

Planning for an itinerary or for attending occasions back at hometown, one should at least book tickets a month in advance or else will end up losing all the passenger facilities. But Indian Railways new plan is going to end all these pains. As for everyone’s joy, the trouble in booking tickets is coming to an end with the introduction of the new rail app with advanced passenger services.

The Economic Time reports that the revamped mobile app will include all the passenger services for its customers. With the touch of a button, the passengers can have access to all the facilities included as a part of the journey such as booking a ticket to even booking a taxi, preordering a meal, requesting for porter services, lodging at a retiring room, and also ordering a bed roll. The upgraded version of the app also allows passengers to register complaints about the lack of cleanliness in the couch. The additional services include accessing digital entertainment, reserving a hotel and booking an airline ticket in case of waitlist.

The proposal drafted by Ernst and Young for railways further intends to enhance the application into three different stages with the access of medical facilities, connecting a passenger to police during emergency as well as assisting with parking at railway stations. The proposed initiative is expected to monetize its digital assets by 500 crore annually.

Railway minister Suresh Prabhu believes that the rail app will increase the non-fare revenue; which is less than 5 percent of the overall revenue earned.
