Netflix Soon to Debut in India; Report


BENGALURU: Netflix, which features both movies and TV shows has over 69 million subscribers in more than 60 countries as of October, 2015, is expected to announce its on-demand streaming service in India by next week at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, reports Hindu Business Line.

The report suggests that Netflix is expected to partner with an Indian telecom company that is offering 4G service. Airtel is already providing 4G services in India where as Reliance is about to begin its 4G services soon this year. So, Netflix might partner with any of these telecom services to debut in India.

In general, Netflix offers its service at $8.99 (approx 600) per month. However, Indian prices are expected to be less than this to compete with the rivals. Netflix is officially not available in India but many people in India uses Netflix by using third party tools. Netflix showcases more than 100 million of TV shows and movies per day, including original series, documentaries and feature films.

In India Netflix might compete with already existing services like Bigflix, Spuul, Youtube movie rentals, Eros Now and a recent addition HOOQ. Sony Pictures Television and Warner Bros lets users enjoy unlimited online streaming access and an offline viewing option on Hollywood, Indian movies and television content, via any device including computers, smartphones, tablets and Android set-top boxes. Netflix might be a game changer in the Indian streaming market.
