Tech giant Microsoft has announced a new category of Windows PCs, dubbed ‘Copilot+ PCs’, designed specifically for the artificial intelligence (AI) era. Marketed as the fastest and most intelligent Windows PCs ever built, these devices start at $999 and feature cutting-edge silicon capable of performing over 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS). They promise all-day battery life and access to the most advanced AI models available.
“These experiences come to life on a set of thin, light, and beautiful devices from Microsoft Surface and our OEM partners Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, with availability starting on June 18”, said Yusuf Mehdi, Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer.
The Copilot+ PCs are designed to harness the power of large language models (LLMs) running in the Azure Cloud, working in concert with small language models (SLMs). This combination enables these PCs to deliver unprecedented levels of performance and efficiency. According to Microsoft, the Copilot+ PCs are up to 20 times more powerful and up to 100 times more efficient for running AI workloads compared to previous models, offering industry-leading AI acceleration.
Security is also a key focus, with all Copilot+ PCs featuring the Microsoft ‘Pluton Security’ processor enabled by default. This ensures robust protection for users' data and activities.
One of the standout features of these new PCs is 'Recall,' a function that allows users to access virtually anything they have seen or done on their PC, simulating a photographic memory experience.
Additionally, Microsoft has announced that Adobe’s flagship applications, including Photoshop, Lightroom, and Express, will be available on Copilot+ PCs. More applications such as Illustrator and Premiere Pro are set to arrive this summer, enhancing the creative potential of these devices.
The introduction of Copilot+ PCs marks a significant step forward in the integration of AI into everyday computing, providing users with unparalleled performance, efficiency, and security in a sleek and powerful package.
